That last one on the bottom is the reaction I had when I realized I would be reading Marvel’s Ultimatum.
Well, I’ve finally decided on a site icon. I guess that means I’m ready to put out a first post that doesn’t say “UNDER CONSTRUCTION.” I don’t know where to begin, so I might as well start with the basics.
Who am I?

One of these is me. You’ll have to guess who… or what.
My name is Ryell or arw1985. Just guess what year I was born. I hale from the weather-changing land of Tennessee. I’ve been doing the blogging thing for a few years now on Blogger. Random Thoughts is its name. While the title’s vague (like me), it’s pretty much about my interests like books, movies, comics, TV, karate, and women… Okay, less so with the women. While I am still churning out stuff over there (less so these days), I thought it was time to see what WordPress was all about. I did think about importing everything over, but I just need to start fresh here. Besides, I just got over 700 posts over there, so it’s staying over there.
How did you get into comics?
I’d be lying if I said I was a casual fan of comics. While I wasn’t much of a reader in my youth, I was always a fan of superheroes. This was mostly thanks to the movies, cartoons, and TV shows. We didn’t’ have a lot of money, so comics were few. It actually wasn’t until college where I really started to get into comics. I think having money and a comic book store in walking distance helped. The Internet also helped out with the hobby. I’m kind of a DC nut, but Marvel’s great as well.
What is the blog about?
So, what is this the mission statement of this new venture? It’s pretty much one black dude’s journey through comic book crossovers. I’ve gone through a few events already on my other blog, but there are still quite a few events and crossovers I haven’t touched yet. That’s pretty much where the idea came from in the first place. In the past couple of years, I’ve been delving more into certain events thanks to Marvel Unlimited. If that DC Universe app starts to include more stuff, I may be able to use it too.
The plan is to go through ones I haven’t talked about. I will also revisit ones I have touched on in the original blog. Obviously, I’ll mostly be sticking with the DC/Marvel fare, but I’ll try to branch out with some crossovers/events from other publishers. Will I talk about all of them in existence? Nah, I don’t even imagining myself doing that. I will say that I do have an endpoint with this one. Different events for the blog will include the following:
- Infinity Gauntlet
- DC Comics’ many Crisises (Crises?)
- Civil War
- Fear Itself
- Almost Every X-Men Crossover (heck, I could have the blog just be dedicated to that!)
- Amazons Attack… (“Bees, my god.”)
- Ugh… Ultimatum
- Civil War 2… man, there are some bad events!
- Amarageddon 2001
- Secret Wars (both of them!)
- House of M, Secret Invasion, and any other event done by Brian Michael Bendis
- Power Rangers’ Shattered Grid (oh yes!)
Well, that’s all I got for this intro post. I’ll probably end up putting most of this stuff into the About page which also is “UNDER CONSTRUCTION.” I did think about playing around with a randomizer in Excel (seriously), but I’ll just stick to personal choices for now. Until then, Peace, God Bless, and be careful out there.
NEXT TIME: THE INFINITY GAUNTLET!
